Why a Community Foundation?
Weston is home to just over 4000 families: it is an exquisite New England town, surrounded by beautiful, lush properties, excellent schools and kind, good people. Within this small community, there are over 40 not-for-profit organizations (tax-exempt 501-c3 entities), all with unique missions but that share a common goal: to build and improve the quality of life for all Westonites.
While each organization plays a critical role in the life in our community, currently there is no tax-exempt fund that can accept monetary donations to support projects with a collective mission, such as the possible new town green, redesigning a new park area or upgrades of the Onion Barn.
The Weston Community Foundation has been created to serve as Weston’s partner in charitable giving and community-building efforts.
Community foundations exist all over the country, and operate with two main functions:
- To provide a place for individual donors to make carefully considered charitable donations, with the understanding and trust that their gifts will be carefully disbursed through thoughtful, effective, and compliant grants in the community; and
- To support organizations and initiatives doing important charitable work, by providing them with the financial support they need to get the job done.
The Weston Community Foundation will support projects that will beautify Weston or improve the quality of life for its residents. Through contributions from those in the community, we provide funding for these projects as they arise and help support their success.
This partnership between donors and community efforts is designed to “raise all ships” through collective action in service of Weston and its citizens. We’re excited to bring Westonites together to support this special place.
If you are interested in donating to the Weston Community Foundation, either to assist with a current project or as a discretionary gift to be invested for whatever needs may arise in the future, please reach out to us today to learn more about the Foundation and about how your funds will be held and invested prior to project grants being disbursed.
